war of the worlds 2

There is an adjustment, an understanding to arrive at, that no matter how much I might work out and stretch, there will more than likely never be a significant improvement to my level of physical ability. My major complaint is, for lack of a better term, physical stamina. I run out of muscular steam very quickly – I can work out in the woods with my chain saw for 20 minutes before I HAVE to sit down. From then, I really can’t work too much longer, even with frequent rests.

And I don’t think any amount of working out in the gym will have much effect on that. I beleive it’s a neurological thing. My muscles are just as strong as they used to be, but the way my brain tells them to work is screwy. Maybe I’m wrong, but that’s how it feels.

  1. Yeah.

I’m trying to seriously lower my expectations. Yesterday evening I went out on the handcycle for what must have been a whopping 7 minutes. I figure it’s better than nothing, and probably better than trying to do half an hour and feeling like a total failure for the next three days.

Maybe I’ll do 8 minutes tonight. (Who, me? Bitter?)
