i read a story in a local freebie newspaper last week about yerba mate, some sort of andean tea, that they said was a great substitute for coffee. i’ve been drinking a lot of coffee lately, more than i would like, to beat what appears to be ms fatigue, and the article said this mate stuff offered a gentler caffene-like boost, and all sorts of other benefits as well. so i bought some, and made some, and it tastes a little like grass clippings, but with enough coffee-like bite to it. with a little cream it was actually not bad.
i’ve been drinking it all weekend, and maybe i’m brewing it wrong, but this morning at work, i come to realize that the coffee jolt is not so easliy replaced. i don’t like having to rely on a stimulant to get thru my day, but apparently, until i can find some way to beat this ms thing, i’m going to have to stick with the coffee.
“Grass clippings”?!? Hmmm…but then again, I drank about a gallon of Mountain Dew a day for several years because of MS fatigue, so I suppose grass clippings isn’t any worse. LOL
