put down that burger!

seems i am hearing more and more of these sorts of stories, “Agribusiness monster Cargill is recalling 1 million pounds of beef that may be contaminated with E. coli.” makes me wants to go back to my vegetarian ways. didn’t i read about frozen pizza being recalled as well? lead in haloween costume teeth, my g*d, is nothing sacred? sometimes those people who buy 100 acres in the ozarks and build a fence around themselves make a lot of sense…..

maybe the key to all these stories is “agribusiness monster.” that’s how the e. coli got in the spinach a few months ago. small and local seems to be the way to go. buy your kiddie’s toys from someone you know, get your meat (if you must eat meat) from a local farm. and if there isn’t a local farm, move to someplace where there is.

pardon my soapbox.

  1. Hi Stephen:

Hubby and I stopped eating red meat about three years ago because of cholesterol numbers. We don’t miss it at all. But we do eat fish, chicken, pork, and veggies.

Now that they started saying e-coli in the veggies! I will start sounding like the red meat eaters. If we can’t eat veggies, we are down to cereal and grains. Ugh.

I understand where you are coming from.

  2. And this is when I have a serious case of schadenfreude … my brother and I BOUGHT a cow last year and were involved in it’s raising and slaughter. The processing was done on the farm … there it is in my deep freeze. Cost me 400$ but I’m secure in the quality and safety of what I feed my family.

    Can I borrow your soapbox?
