road trippin’

for us cripples, the idea of a road trip includes (at least) several considerations that non-crips don’t have to deal with. i have a fairly compact folding wheelchair that has been proven to fit into the trunk of a taxi, and managed to squeeze into the handicapped seating area of an amtrak train. but i always keep in mind that there are situations where my chair will not work, where having a walker would be nice. when i was in florida with my sister last winter, we tried strapping my folding walker to the back of the rented scooter for a day in st. augustine. with mixed results. while it was great to have the walker for places – like the alleged handicapped public rest-room – the walker i have doesn’t really fold very small, and was constantly bonking into things and getting hung-up.

so i was very excited to find this:

and will order it, and give it a shake-down before my next road trip. fingers crossed!
