I used to have a book called, “What Do You Say When You Talk To Yourself?” It was, as you might imagine, essentially an admonition to speak to oneself in positive reinforcing language.

These days, what I mainly say is, “Shut the fuck up.”

  1. I think I know what you’re saying and I struggle with the same thing. I understand the psychology, but I believe it’s not how we talk to ourselves, but how we talk to God and how He speaks to us. No matter what I do, no matter what MS does to me, no matter what other people or even I think of me, God loves me, values me and comforts me. For me, talking to Him is a better idea than talking to myself.

    1. Yes, talking to myself as myself is rarely productive. But, in the end, if I can get out of the way, talking to myself is talking to The Divine, since, in the end, that’s who we all are.
